Aussie Bulldog Rescue Service- The Australian Bulldog Society of Australia
The Australian Bulldog Society has very kindly begun a rescue service for rehoming those poor Aussie Bulldogs that never quite found their forever homes. There are many reasons why puppies go astray ending up in pounds and shelters, sadly many ruthless breeders don’t interview their puppy adoptees extensively to assess whether they are suitable.
Furthermore the Australian Bulldog has become quite a commercial breed attracting many so called ‘breeders’ who are not trying to improve the breed, instead they are breeding without purpose, never keeping any of their own progeny.
To all the breeders out there- don’t breed your dogs if they don’t come up to stratch, the progeny will be no better and these dogs will not do anything for the betterment of the breed. Instead these puppies may end up in the wrong hands, possibly being bred again producing more puppies that will likely end up in animal shelters.
The Australian Bulldog Society has taken further steps to rule out breeding where it is not supported by the breeder and the set standard. That is, puppies that are deemed of pet quality, be it for health reasons or poor conformation- will receive a stamp on their registration papers stating that this dog was not sold for the purpose of breeding. Subsequently no puppies from such dogs will be able to be registered with the official Australian Bulldog Society of Australia.
We support this move wholeheartedly and believe this will only better our breed and improve the control we have as breeders over where our puppies go and what plans our adoptees have for their lives. A similar process was introduced by the New South Wales Canine Council (ANKC), whereby puppies deemed of pet quality received limited registration papers. These puppies could not be shown or bred from. Discriminant breeders used this as a control and such bloodlines have gone leaps and bounds as only the best quality stock are used for breeding. The puppies on limited register finding loving forever homes, where temperament is the number one and only priority in the puppy selection process.
Well done to the Australian Bulldog Society, of which we are very proud to be members.

We are looking to adopt or buy and Australian bulldog. We have a rescue puppy already and are looking for a companion for him and do not have an specific prerequisites regarding age, colour etc.
We are located in Sydney, but would happily look at transporting a dog in need.
We are experienced dog owners of some fifteen years, having recently lost our Newfoundland and Bassett Hound to cancer months apart and would welcome any referrals.
