The Diet We Recommend Feeding Your Dog

There are many brands of dog food available. We personally don’t feed our dogs very much dryfood at all, we concentrate mainly on fresh meat, be it chicken drumsticks, brisket bones, beef mince, or fish. Our dogs are used to a wide variety of foods. Having said that, this only applies to our older dogs, those that have finnished all their growing.

Dryfood is beneficial for young puppies as it contains all the vitamins and minerals your puppy needs for healthy bone development, and many other aspects of growth. There are other diets such as the BARF diet that concentrate on all natural foods, however unless you have some knowledge of nutrition and canine development, preparing these mixtures can be daunting for the beginner. We like to mix a bit of both in, and ensure our dogs get the best of beef, chicken, fish, Dairy just to name a few. Ofcourse the best of all, good old table scraps. No Chocolate whatsoever! Dogs don’t have the enzymes required to metabolise the toxic metabolite of chocolate, we do however, and so we don’t get sick, but our Dogs can die from ingesting chocolate, so avoid it at all costs.

Totally agree with you there, natural is best. We feed our dog, Spok on the BARF diet, and he’s doing really well. Lots of vegetables, fruit, bones and ofcourse a bit of our food too.
