This technique is regularly used in Australian Bulldogs, we find it very helpful and successful.Today, many dog breeders and veterinarians have found artificial insemination (AI) to be an invaluable tool. Many of them see it as a way to increase the quality

Balerow Matilda, photographed at 13 months

Monday, September 24th, 2007

Matilda is now just over 12 months old. We caught a few happy snaps the other day when she was running about the yard, doing the typical Aussie Bulldog moves. She’d be great at agility, full of energy and a really keen eye. She’s running after her kong in one of the pics, she’s a very agile and suprisingly obedient girl for her age.We love her. Enjoy the pics!

Our little Aussie Bull Princess- Balerow Zeppelin 12 weeks old

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

She’s looking more and more like her mum everyday, just as cheeky too! These photos were taken the day she had her 12 week vaccination, she’s clearly not phased by the experience, typical Bully. As you’ll see, she’s just started teething and she’s really taking it out on the garden!zep007.jpg

Thanks for looking and for those who don’t know, Zeppelin is out of Zephyr and Oden, and her grandma is Zarah. A very good looking family- how could she be anything but!? To view Zeppelin when she was younger view her albums.

BARF- The bones and raw food Diet, an Introduction

Sunday, September 16th, 2007

What is the Diet About?

Feeding dogs the diet they evolved to eat over millions of years of genetic adaptation. Other terms for the diet include evolutionary diet, natural diet and species appropriate diet.

Philosophy

If our bulldogs are to reach their genetic potential in terms of health, longevity, physical activity and reproduction, their modern day diet must mimic as closely as possible their evolutionary diet.

The further an animal’s diet departs from its evolutionary diet, the more health problems that animal is likely to develop. That is why modern grain based pet foods, no matter how well researched, cause many health problems. It is impossible for them to match the health enhancing attributes of the evolutionary diet.

Nutrition-Requirements and Related Diseases

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

In regards to management practices feeding is one of the most important practices of the pet owner. Vet’s believe that feeding is an integral part of both preventative health care and many treatment protocols for medical and surgical patients. The simplest method of meeting the nutritional requirements of dogs is to feed a fixed formula, complete and balanced commercial diet designed and appropriately tested for dogs. For more information on such commercial products visit this link, on this page we have listed some helpful websites, with information on products we recommend. However, having said that we and many other breeders and dog owners have shown that dogs can thrive well eating a variety of commercial and home foods, which may include vegetables and synthetic supplements, take the BARF diet for example.

The Diet We Recommend Feeding Your Dog

Friday, September 14th, 2007

There are many brands of dog food available. We personally don’t feed our dogs very much dryfood at all, we concentrate mainly on fresh meat, be it chicken drumsticks, brisket bones, beef mince, or fish. Our dogs are used to a wide variety of foods. Having said that, this only applies to our older dogs, those that have finnished all their growing.

Breeding Your Australian Bulldog- Looking for a Stud Dog?

Thursday, September 13th, 2007

We thought we’d post some links to help you in your search for a suitable Stud dog for your Aussie Bulldog Female. If your Aussie Bulldog is registered and has Australian Bulldog papers, don’t waste her by crossing with another breed such as British Bulldog, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Bullmastiff etc. Puppies sired by other breeds will not be registered with the Australian Bulldog Society, only 100% Australian Bulldogs are accepted by our registry. There are lots of very handsome male Aussie Bulldogs out there, that will compliment your female, but we don’t recommend breeding from your female is she doesn’t fit the breed standard, all dogs will have faults but if they outweigh her good points, your unlikely to get any outstanding puppies.

Acquiring/Buying an Aussie Bulldog Puppy-What to Look For

Saturday, September 8th, 2007

There are a few ways of acquiring an Aussie Bulldog puppy, some of which are not recommended, but it all depends on what your purpose is.

Newpapers-Trading Post, Telergaph etc

We don’t recommend buying a puppy through any newpaper advertisements. Often these puppies are not registered with the recognised bodies, the Australian Bulldog Society or UABA and if they are, they may not be reputable breeders. Most breeders have extensive waiting lists for their puppies and only rehome their progeny into approved homes. Beware of puppies that are not registered, as their lineage may not be known, and you may be purchasing a puppy sired by a Pit Bull or some other breed, your not likely to get a true Aussie Bulldog.

Pet Shops

We certainly don’t condone the selling of Aussie Bulldogs in pet shops, and your unlikely to find any puppies registered by the Australian Bulldog society in such places. These puppies are likely to be cross-breeds, being sold as Aussie Bulldogs, such dogs may look cute now, but many of them will not resemble Bulldogs when fully mature. Puppies sold in pet shops are often from Puppy Farms, where the puppies are not reared in a family environment and receive little human contact, reducing their chances of growing into stable family companions. The price of puppies in pet shops is also alot more than you’d would expect to pay getting your puppy from a reputable breeder. Furthermore, when buying from a pet shop you don’t get to view the parents of your puppy, something all reputable breeders are more than willing and should do.

Websites-online

Beware of breeders selling puppies online, make sure you see plenty of photos of the parents, and the puppy ofcourse. Also check to see that the puppy has received all his vet checks, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed and that you will receive some information regarding diet, exercise, training etc.

From our experience, we recommend you also check, how many generations of Australian Bulldog to Australian Bulldog breeding
