Feeding your puppy
Aussie’s love food, one of their favorite things! So beware they can easily become overweight. Your bulldog is overweight if you can’t feel his last couple of ribs- that is feel not see. Its important not to let your puppy carry too much weight during his growing stage, as this puts unnecessary strain on his joints, and can lead to developmental problems later on.
Another area of importance is in the feeding of meat to your puppy. Many people think feeding their puppy lots of a meat will make him big and strong, however for every bit of extra meat you feed your puppy, your removing some of the complete nutrient based dryfood (Supercoat special care puppy), which will be detrimental to his growth. Your puppy needs Calcium during these periods of high growth rate, and any lack of this nutrient will result in sub-optimal skeletal development. We don’t recommend feeding chicken mince, although its very cheap, it isn’t good for your dogs. It goes off very quickly and carries alot more bacteria, increasing the liklihood that your puppy will get a gastronintestinal bug (diarrhoea etc).
We only feed our babies and older babies, beef mince, without added preservative and if we feed chicken we ensure its always human consumption chicken only! Chicken goes off very quickly, even human consumption chicken, so god knows whats in the pet mince.
Therefore please keep the dryfood in the majority, and add the meat as an enhancer. Also with your meat, ensure it is puppy mince. Puppy mince has a nice balance of lean red meat with some fat, puppies need some fat, so a completely lean mince isn’t suitable at this stage.
Your puppy should be fed 3 times per day. You can also add some vegetables, tuna, salmon, chicken necks (with care-watch for choking, cut them in half, while puppy is small), pasta, scrambled eggs.
